She gave a nod to him. ““We’d best get back to work, then.”

RP 101

Bjorke stood stiffly, holding herself apart from the crowd. She frowned, ill at ease among the strangers, her leather armor creaking slightly as she shifted position. She kept her hand on the handle of the weapon concealed beneath her tunic, more from habit than any perceived danger.

Mabon, on the other hand, was going from person to person, greeting them warmly, calling them by name. She seemed to know everyone there. Her long skirt swished quietly as she walked, almost bouncing in her exuberance.

Arsonite seemed almost oblivious to the goings-on around him. He skirted the area, making notes and cataloging anything that caught his eye.

“Arson!” Mabon said to him, smiling. “How good to see you again! It’s just been ages!” she gushed.

The gnome looked up, as if just noticing her there. “Indubitably! It is most efficacious and serendipitous to make the pleasure of your acquaintance yet again!” His hands gestured wildly as he spoke.

Two Faces of Horde

Izzi and Wichy walked side by side along the shores of Stranglethorn, his frog, Mojo , hopping along behind them. “So… you like this place, huh?” The tone of her voice made it obvious she preferred a different type of environment, one with cool drinks with little umbrellas and fruit in them.

“Lak it? Dis be me home, be de only place me wan be stayin’.”

Trying desperately to smooth her hair, made frizzy by the humidity, Izzi smiles. “I’d like it a whole lot more with a drink in my hand.”

Wichy reaches into his Six Demon Bag and pulls out a vial of a glowing green liquid. ” ‘Ere, drink dis, som special juju me mixed, do taste mos’ def! Yu lak it, be trustin ol’ Wichy, ya? “

Izzi takes the vial with two fingers, and sniffs it carefully. Her face wrinkles in disgust, and her face pales. She looks up at him, peering through the VooDoo mask. “I think I’d rather have a Mojoito.”

Binni watched her small friend Arsonite as he tinkered with his latest experiments. “You very funny, Arh-sohn! You funny small peoples!”

The gnome tilted his head, trying to decipher her thick Draenei accent. “Indubitably, Binni! The effusiveness of your complimentary expulsions are most therapeutic, indeed!”

Binni, in turn, puzzled over his odd speech. “Eez good words, yes?”

Arson nodded, turning his attention back to the contraption on the work table. His bald head bobbed as he worked, as if he was carrying on an internal monologue. The few remaining strands of hair were singed, and he always smelled of smoke. Binni found him fascinating, and so unlike any of her fellow Draenei.

As she stretched out her long legs, happy to have a break from her work, she looked at her pet, Spot. The leopard was a constant reminder of the snowy lands Binni had come to love in her short time on Azeroth. The odd pair spent the afternoon in companionable silence, not needing words to enjoy each other’s company.

Mabon sat at the table with her large friend, Edrick. Mouse wove in and around her feet, reacting to the agitation his mistress displayed. “Why do people have to be so mean?” she asked, looking to the older, wiser man for guidance.

Edrick chuckled at her understatement. The young woman certainly had a rather innocent view on the world. “There are good and bad in all things, Mabon. It is the way of things.”

Pouting slightly, Mabon reached down to pick up her cat. “Well, some people just seem bad. I don’t like bad guys.”

This remark brought loud guffaws from Edrick. “You aren’t supposed to like them, child!”

Furry Friends - A Holiday Update

Mabon and Stella sat under the tree in Ironforge, comparing presents from Great Father Winter. “Ooo! A new microphone!” said Mabon.

“Are these prairie dogs?” asked Stella.

“No, I think they are called guinea pigs,” replied Mabon, looking at the furry friends in Stella’s hands. “Cute! What will you name them?”

“Fred and George, I think. They remind me of a book I’ve been reading.” Stella picked up the small animals and nuzzled them, one at a time. “I like the noise they make!”

You’d Better Be Good

Mabon ran around her room, trying to find her other sandal. Her dress for the Ball was getting wrinkled as she crawled on the floor, looking under the bed and the bookcases. A muffled “mew” told her were to find her shoe. “Mouse! You give me back my sandal! That’s not yours!”

Once the footwear was retrieved, and her dress smoothed out once again, Mabon was ready to attend the Winter’s Veil Ball. She was a bit nervous. Would there be trouble, like at the last Ball? Would someone pick a fight? Would her date like her new dress? These thoughts raced through her mind like a blizzard.

With the Winter Holidays just around the corner, Mabon was in a flurry of preparation. “There’s so much to do! C’mon, Mouse… help me with these decorations!”

Character of a Man

“That Arsonite Tinkerboom certainly is a character, isn’t he?” Mabon chuckled thinking of her recent visit with her new friend.

“I haven’t met the fellow, yet, but I’ll take your word for it, lass.”

“It certainly is interesting what you can learn about a person just by spending a bit of time with them.” Mabon picked up her faithful cat, Mouse, and nuzzled his fur. She fiddled with her dress, and tried to sit still while waiting for Garnil to finish polishing his armor.

Garnil painstakingly shined each piece, inspecting them carefully for signs of wear or disrepair. He whistled a cheerful tune as he worked, obviously enjoying his task.

Feast of the Mind

Mabon sat at her desk, writing on parchment. She had crossed out and re-written so many times, she had filled two pages with nothing. Sighing, she looked at her cat, Mouse. “Why is it that I can always think of something to say until I try to write it down?”

“Do you have that report ready for me yet, Mabon?” The Adjutant General’s voice was stern over the Guild Communicator.

“Almost, Sir. Just… um…. Getting the final touches done.” Mabon bit her lip, hoping he wouldn’t hear the lie in her voice.

She turned her attention away from the cat, who was now busy chasing a shadow on the floor, and concentrated on writing. Pen scratching on parchment was the only sound as Mabon hastily completed her report. “I’m sure this isn’t nearly good enough, but it will have to do for now. At least it’s done, right, Mouse?”

Mabon slipped the report into the mailbox, adjusted her dress, and headed for the Cooking trainer. There was a big feast to prepare for, and she definitely needed more lessons! “I’d really like my family to actually be able to eat the food I lay on the table this time.”

The warrior in his gleaming armor stood at the ready, and his team waited for his signal, everyone in position. With a nod of his head, they entered the fray, moving together in the dance of death. Garnil was in the middle, surrounded by angry mobs, withstanding blow after blow, and enjoying every moment.

Mabon stayed behind the beasts, wielding her maces with fury, glad he was taking the brunt of the anger, and not her. When she hit a beast a mite too hard and got his attention, Garnil shouted in rage, turning the beast back to himself.

At the end of the fight, he wiped off his sword. “Quite fun. Quite fun, indeed.” Mabon grinned at him. In just a few words, he summed up the entire adventure.

AltOholics Anonymous

Mabon stood with her momma, Aelsa, and her daddy, Stenholm. Her daughter, Finnall, played happily nearby. Bjorke stood on the edge of the balcony, her blades ready in case trouble arose. Commander Thunderman and his young Draenei friend, Daegrinn, watched the family scene with polite interest.

Nearby, a small crowd was gathered. Bjorke looked them over, assessing each one in turn. A pair of female Draenei hunters spoke in whispers to each other. A small gnome with bright green hair tried to hide in the shadows, along with a human male, but Bjorke’s keen vision spotted them. There was a young paladin who looked oddly familiar, and of course, her old friend, Mingus.

Off in the distance, a small group of Blood Elves huddled together. The leader of the pack was none other than Izzi Vuolu, hunter of both prey and men. A young black Tauren looked around uneasily until Roarren joined him. Bjorke wasn’t quite sure, but she thought she saw a troll or two and some Forsaken as well. She was ready, in case they decided to cause trouble, and certainly the Commander was always prepared to bash some skulls, as he liked to say.

Looking around at her friends and well-wishers, Mabon beamed with excitement. She loved parties! Completely oblivious to the Horde contingent nearby, she motioned her guests towards the food, prepared by her momma, to avoid any disasters. A pair of humans, identical except for their clothing, were first in line. Bjorke nodded at them, grinning. “Hello, Dunsel, Redundant.”

The men smiled back. “Been a long time,” they said in unison.

Even in this crowd, a few absent friends were missed. Mabon’s friend, Jeater, who drowned in the canals under mysterious circumstances, and her “uncle” Sven, who was killed after trying to exact insane vengeance against Bjorke.

A gnome ran from group to group, trying to count them all, then realized he didn’t have nearly enough fingers. He gave up, and sat with the others.

Mabon looked over at Garnil, obviously pleased with the turn-out. He winked at her and grinned, wondering how she could keep them all straight in her mind.

“Why, hello there, tall, dark and furry. Come sit over here, next to me.” Izzi smiled, and patted the bench beside her. The large Tauren hesitated just a moment, glancing around to make sure she was talking to him. The bench shifted slightly as he sat next to the tiny Blood Elf, and she giggled.

“And what are you doing so far from home?” She tilted her head as she spoke to him, gazing in to his dark eyes.

“I was looking for work.” He spoke slowly, his deep voice rumbling in his chest.

“Well, there’s always work to be found for someone as strong as you!” Izzi placed her hand on his arm, squeezing his muscle. “Oooo! Yes, you are a strong one, aren’t you?” The twinkle in her eyes hinted at mischief. “What’s your name, cutie?”

“Roarren.” Obviously, a man of action, and not of words.

“Roarren.” She repeated his name, letting the Rs roll off her tongue, drawing out the sounds. Rrrroarrrrennn. “Mmm, what a powerful name.” A quick glance at his armor told Izzi just about everything she need to know about this Shaman. “I certainly could use the help of someone like you. Little ol’ me just can’t take on those big, bad meanies all by myself.” She licked her lips and batted her eyes at him. “Care to assist me?”

Standing up much quicker than imaginable for someone his size, Roarren offered Izzi his hand. “I’ll help.”

“Perfect,” She said. “Just perfect.”

The sunlight glinted off her mace as she swung hard, connecting to skull with a dull thud. She had taken the orc by surprise from behind, stunning him, as he tried to attack. “We’re counting on you to guard him…” The words echoed in her head, fueling her strikes. The healer knelt over Commander Thunderman, tending his wounds from the battle against the War Master at Grom’Gol. The Knight-General had ordered Mabon to stand watch, making sure the priest could work in safety. Another blow of her mace rendered the assailant dazed, and Mabon pressed her advantage. When the orc had enough, and turned to run, Mabon drew her throwing knife, held her breath and took aim.

The orc fell, face down, the hilt of the knife waving from the base of his neck. “Well done, lass!” Garnil chuckled, and the priest ordered him to hold still. Mabon smiled, pleased at the praise, and slipped into shadow once again to continue her vigil.

“Thank you for coming, Commander.” Mabon stood on tiptoe and gave Garnil Thunderman a quick kiss on the cheek. She enjoyed watching the slight flush that rose in his face.

“My pleasure, lass. A grand party, indeed. Lovely.”Garnil shifted uneasily. He was not one who went to many casual gatherings.

“You are too kind. I know my parties never end well, but I just can’t seem to stop hosting them!” Mabon giggled, thinking back to the last few gatherings, including the one just before the twins were born and she went into labor in the middle of the party! “I guess it’s just an excuse for me to dress up and talk to everyone.”

“Aye, Mabon. You certainly seem the social butterfly.”

Mabon watched him leave, and turned to survey the room. Hmm. There seemed to be a leftover. Propped in the corner, snoring softly, was a dwarf. Mabon turned to ask Commander Thunderman for assistance, but he was gone already. Mabon shrugged and picked up a broom, sweeping around the sleeping guest.

If the Shoe Fits…

Mabon eyed herself in the mirror. Turning this way and that, trying to get a sense of how she looked in the new gown. Sighing, she took it off and tried on the next one. No, that one wouldn’t do at all! Perhaps the green…. She went through a half-dozen dresses before deciding on the blue one. Yes, it was a bit low cut in front, but the color brought out her eyes.

She went downstairs to meet her escort for the evening, Commander Thunderman. He had removed his tabard, and shined his armor, and looked as dashing as ever. Mabon smiled up at him. “I guess you didn’t have much trouble deciding what to wear this evening, did you?”

“No, lass, “ he chuckled at her. “Just in deciding whether or not it would be fitting to bring my weapons. I truly feel quite naked without them.”

Mabon blushed pink at her Commanding Officer, as the thought of him naked save for his weapons ran through her mind. She slipped her arm into his plate-clad one, the metal cool on her fingers. “Shall we be going, then?” The silver-haired man smiled down at his young friend, and they headed off.
