“Thank you for coming, Commander.” Mabon stood on tiptoe and gave Garnil Thunderman a quick kiss on the cheek. She enjoyed watching the slight flush that rose in his face.

“My pleasure, lass. A grand party, indeed. Lovely.”Garnil shifted uneasily. He was not one who went to many casual gatherings.

“You are too kind. I know my parties never end well, but I just can’t seem to stop hosting them!” Mabon giggled, thinking back to the last few gatherings, including the one just before the twins were born and she went into labor in the middle of the party! “I guess it’s just an excuse for me to dress up and talk to everyone.”

“Aye, Mabon. You certainly seem the social butterfly.”

Mabon watched him leave, and turned to survey the room. Hmm. There seemed to be a leftover. Propped in the corner, snoring softly, was a dwarf. Mabon turned to ask Commander Thunderman for assistance, but he was gone already. Mabon shrugged and picked up a broom, sweeping around the sleeping guest.

Mabon eyed herself in the mirror. Turning this way and that, trying to get a sense of how she looked in the new gown. Sighing, she took it off and tried on the next one. No, that one wouldn’t do at all! Perhaps the green…. She went through a half-dozen dresses before deciding on the blue one. Yes, it was a bit low cut in front, but the color brought out her eyes.

She went downstairs to meet her escort for the evening, Commander Thunderman. He had removed his tabard, and shined his armor, and looked as dashing as ever. Mabon smiled up at him. “I guess you didn’t have much trouble deciding what to wear this evening, did you?”

“No, lass, “ he chuckled at her. “Just in deciding whether or not it would be fitting to bring my weapons. I truly feel quite naked without them.”

Mabon blushed pink at her Commanding Officer, as the thought of him naked save for his weapons ran through her mind. She slipped her arm into his plate-clad one, the metal cool on her fingers. “Shall we be going, then?” The silver-haired man smiled down at his young friend, and they headed off.
